Ferry Plantation House
The Ferry Plantation House is located on the James River,
otherwise known as the Lynnhaven Waterway in Virginia Beach VA. We were invited
to investigate the Ferry Plantation House by Belinda Nash the Executive
Director of this location. The Ferry Plantation House has long been rumored to
be haunted, based on eyewitness accounts of employees and volunteers, and also
tourist who have visited this location. We were not the first paranormal team
allowed to investigate this location; we were one of a small number of teams
allowed to investigate this historical land mark. Their interest is to have
creditable paranormal teams to investigate through scientific means to either
prove through evidence collected that this location does offer activity that is
of paranormal origin, but also to debunk the claims which we feel are
non-paranormal. I want get too
deep into the history of this location all this information is available on
their web site. I can tell you that the Ferry Plantation was established in
1642, and received its name from the ferry boat service which ran the James
River and loaded passengers at eleven points along the river. The house itself
consists of three stories and has two separate wings connected and divided by a
hallway coming in from the front door. The left wing was dedicated to the
workers or slaves; the right wing was dedicated to the owners of the home. We arrived at the Ferry Plantation House
and were greeted by Belinda and also some volunteers who gave us a tour of the
home and also the history surrounding the Ferry Plantation. We set up cameras
and digital recorders in areas of reported activity with in both wings of the
house, including all three stories. We felt that if anything paranormal
occurred we could capture video evidence of the activity on any of the twelve
IR stationary cameras as well as various camcorders that were also present, in
addition to the many digital recorders in every room in the home. While we were
waiting for sunset we also took hundreds of photos both inside the home and
also on the grounds of the property. At approximately eight o clock we split up
into two teams, one team took the left wing and the other team took the right
wing and we began our investigation of the Ferry Plantation. The night started
somewhat slow, there were some EMF spikes along with K-2 spikes and noises we
could not account for. Approximately two hours into the investigation the
activity began to surface, we began to receive K-2 responses and also
flashlight responses to our questions. We also received evps during our evp
sessions and also direct responses courtesy of the ‘Ghost Box’ responses we
could hear in real time. Our two teams took a break and then switched wings of
the house and continued our investigation, we continued to get similar
responses from both teams .There were some personal experiences of note; I was
filming with a camcorder in the attic of the left wing when something I did not
see brush by me and pushed the camcorder to the left as it was leaving the
attic. There was an investigator who offered to give one the ghost kids a piggy
back ride and was scratched on the back, it was not out of anger but instead it
was their way of letting her know they had done what she had asked.
There was also the sound of silky fabric we heard on several occasions on
the second floor of the right wing of the home, it sounded to us like one of the
many dresses were being moved or something was walking around that we could not
see. These are just a couple of personal experiences we encountered while
investigating the Ferry Plantation House. In closing, after consideration of all
the evidence collected along with personal experiences our two teams have
concluded that the Ferry Plantation House is ‘Haunted’, however poses no threat
to the public or anyone. We would like to give thanks to the people of Norfolk
and Virginia Beach VA. for their hospitality, also to Belinda and Amy for having
us and assisting us in the investigation. As always if you are experiencing
